Final coat of asphalt being applied to Arlington

Arlington paving

Last week milling got underway on Arlington Road north of September Drive in preparation for the top coat of asphalt. First the inside lane was milled to remove the asphalt placed on the edge of the road that was applied to allow for plowing during the winter. A few lane restrictions will occur during the nighttime hours as most of the work is being completed at night.
“The asphalt is delivered to the project at a temperature over 500 degrees and it is a polymer modified mix that creates a better wet weather adhesion,” said David Hart owner of Municipal Service Group.
Asphalt will be placed starting on the southeast portion of the project and in the curb lane first. Turkeyfoot Road will receive asphalt once Arlington Road is completed. Finally, side roads and driveways will be completed.
Following each night of paving, temporary milling will occur so that there are no large drop-offs for motorists. Once the asphalt has been applied, striping of the entire stretch will take place.
The contractor estimates that paving will take between 8-15 days total based on weather conditions.
