Eating a healthy lunch

(Second in a four part series about eating healthy)

Lunch is a meal that most of us just grab something quick or we just skip the meal altogether. Sometimes that quick lunch can end up being very unhealthy. So when lunchtime comes, what should you eat and what should you avoid? Below we take a closer look at many common lunch foods and detail if they are healthy or not.
Fresh Fruits
Fruits are a great choice to boost your energy while you are stuck at work. Oranges and tangerines are a great source of Vitamin C. Apples, bananas, pears, fresh berries, watermelon, pineapple and grapes are also great healthy options for lunch. Fruit juices are also good, but they tend to have a greater number of calories in them.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
The famous peanut butter and jelly sandwich is actually a pretty healthy option for lunch. Peanut butter has protein and the jelly is made from berries. Try wheat or whole grain bread rather than white bread when making your sandwich.
Lunch Meat
Lunch meat is not a real healthy option for you, but it is something that is decent to have from time to time. Most lunch meats have a lot of sodium and preservatives in them. A better option for sandwiches is to use leftover meat from dinner the night before.
A salad is a great choice for lunch or dinner and salads are the healthiest if eaten without any dressing. An option is to try a low-calorie dressing for your salad if you must have dressing. Don’t worry too much though because salads are still healthy with dressing. Also try putting cheese on your salad because it is a great source of calcium and protein. Many places offer salads, but you are better off to make your own that way you can put whatever you want on it.
Some soups are healthier than others. Most canned soups contain a lot of sugar and sodium, but many soups have vegetables and are very filling. Soup is a great choice to have from time to time, but not something you want to eat every single day.

Keep in mind these are just a few options for lunch. When it comes to eating lunch try to take something from home rather than eating out of a vending machine or getting fast food. Do your best to make lunch simple and healthy at the same time.
