The City of Green is entering the second year of its Student Municipal Representative program that appoints students in grades 10 -12 to non-voting positions on several of the City’s boards and commissions. Designed to encourage volunteerism and civic responsibility, the program includes seats on the Planning & Zoning Commission, Design Review Board, Parks & Recreation Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Living Green Task Force and the Green Drug Task Force.
“In the first year of this program we received 11 applications,” said Mayor Gerard Neugebauer. “We decided to make room for each applicant and have been gratified by the caliber of involvement from these students. We look forward to what next year’s class will bring.”
Green residents entering grades 10 – 12 this fall are invited to apply. Application deadline is May 31, 2018. Students who are selected will be required to attend an orientation in August and will begin their appointment in September. Most boards and commissions meet monthly. Student terms will follow the school year and be from September 2018 through May 2019.
